Letter to MPs about Heathrow third runway

Ahead of a crucial Westminster vote on whether to approve the Heathrow third runway we, together with Friends of the Earth England, Wales and Northern Ireland, wrote to all Scottish MPs urging them to vote against this disastrous project.

Our key points are:

• Expanding aviation is incompatible with our commitment to tackling climate change and the Paris Agreement
• Heathrow is already the single biggest source of climate emissions in the UK, and there is no plan to mitigate the extra emissions the third runway would bring
• Building the third runway would demolish local communities, and the extra flights would increase noise and air pollution for thousands of people
