Fife food project to host international gathering

An international food conference in Fife will bring together speakers from Ecuador, Spain, Austria and all across Scotland to look at alternatives to the globalised food culture.

WHAT: Food revolt: resistance, food sovereignty and climate justice.
WHERE: Kinghorn Community Centre, Rossland Place, KY3 9TU Kinghorn.
WHEN: Saturday 12 November 2011 10.30 – 18.30.

The Fife Diet project, now Europe’s largest local food movement, is hosting the ‘Food Revolt’ conference to discuss how the local food movement relates to wider global issues.

Friends of the Earth’s Chief Executive Stan Blackley said:

“The decisions we make about how and what we eat each day can have significant negative and positive impacts on the environment, the economy and for other people around the world. With the global population growing and consumption on the up, we will need to be ever more thoughtful about our eating habits in coming years.

“Scotland is well placed to feed itself sustainably and ethically, and in doing so can improve public health, reconnect people with the land, support local businesses and the Scottish economy, and help reduce the carbon and human impacts of the global food industry. The Food Revolt conference will be a great opportunity to learn more about what can be done to reclaim our food and eat, grow and trade more sustainably.”

The one day conference will incorporate the AGM of the Fife Diet, as well as feature practical cookery workshops and activities for kids.

The event is organised in collaboration with International Association for Community Development, Via Campesina and World Development Movement Scotland.
