I would like to let members and supporters of Friends of the Earth Scotland know that Rochana Sheward will be stepping down from the Director role, with their final day being 13 March.

For the next few months, our experienced Senior Leadership Team, Alison Ritchie, Caroline Rance and Kate Whitaker, are taking on a collective leadership role in close collaboration with the executive team of the FoES board.

We are continuing our work to build a powerful movement for environmental justice and impactful campaigns against new fossil fuels in Scotland, for a just transition for workers and communities and fairer uses of global resources, alongside exciting new work for public ownership of Scotland’s buses and just solutions to our energy crisis.

During this period the Board, made up of elected members, is undertaking a process to reflect and review what leadership could and should look like at Friends of the Earth Scotland, to best deliver our work for people and planet. The Board will ensure to communicate to members our plans for moving forward as an organisation and look forward to discussing our work with you all at the AGM in June.

We are in a strong position, with a committed board, team and membership, and are well placed for its next chapter. Rochana is working with myself (chair) and Board on a focused handover to support continuity through this transition.

We’re grateful for Rochana’s contribution and look forward to the next phase of the organisation’s work.

– Megan McHaney, Chair of the Friends of the Earth Scotland Board
