We launched our groundbreaking report on North Sea oil and gas with an event in Edinburgh where the report authors talked about their work.

The ‘Sea Change’ report shows how the UK’s oil and gas drilling plans, and Scottish Government’s support for them, are incompatible with responding to the climate emergency.

With existing fields containing enough oil and gas to take us over Paris Agreement limits, the report makes clear that exploration for new fossil fuels must cease.

Both Governments must work with affected communities and trade unions on a Just Transition plan. With the right policies, this plan could create new decent jobs in clean industries while managing the phase-out of oil and gas extraction.

The report was written by Platform, Oil Change International, and Friends of the Earth Scotland.

Greg Muttitt discusses how we must align UK fossil fuel extraction with climate goals agreed in the Paris Climate Agreement.

Anna discusses the potential for a just transition away from fossil fuels and what the UK and Scottish Governments need to do make it happen.
