Global Divestment Day in Scotland
On 13-14 February 2015 groups around the world will be calling for our money to be taken out of fossil fuels and dirty energy. This will be the first ever Global Divestment Day!
We’re supporting a number of actions in Scotland which you can take part in.
On Friday 13 February students and university staff from across Scotland will converge at the University of Edinburgh to call for our educational institutions to quit investing in dirty energy.
- If you’d like to take part on Friday visit the Facebook event to sign up and find out more.
On Saturday 14 February Friends of the Earth members will join other activists to call for public money to get out of fossil fuels and into sustainable, clean energy. We’ll be joined by inspiring speakers and a dragon of divestment! The event also marks the Edinburgh launch of “For the love of“, where you can have your photo sent to Nicola Sturgeon.
- There’s more information about Saturday’s activities on the Facebook event.
We’re also supporting two brand new online campaigns to get money out of fossil fuels this Global Divestment Day.
If you’re interested in moving your bank account to a green alternative then join the Move Your Money campaign. You can find out more on their website here.
You can also join the call for your pension fund to go fossil-free by taking part in Share Action’s “I want to break fossil-free”. Click here to sign the petition.
Finally MSP Alison Johnstone has called a motion in the Scottish Parliament to support divestment day and call for action on Scotland’s fossil fuel investments. You can read the motion here.
