Gracie Bradley announced as new Director
Friends of the Earth Scotland has appointed Gracie Bradley as our new Director.
Gracie has over a decade’s experience working for human rights and migrant justice organisations and was Director of civil liberties group Liberty from 2020 – 2021. She also has a background in grassroots campaigning, and is the co-author of Against Borders: The Case for Abolition (Verso 2022).
Gracie will direct Friends of the Earth Scotland work, such as campaigning for a just transition to a fossil fuel free Scotland, to create a circular economy and make our transport system fairer and greener,
The Board of Friends of the Earth Scotland who led the recruitment said that they were really pleased to welcome Gracie to lead the team.
FoES Chair Mark Ballard said that her “experience, enthusiasm and commitment to justice made her an excellent choice to direct our vital campaigning work in Scotland. I am confident that we will go from strength to strength under her stewardship.”
Gracie Bradley said she was “delighted to be joining FoES at this critical time. We have a huge amount of work to do to make our vision a reality – ensuring people everywhere have a fair share of the earth’s resources and that Scotland delivers a fair and fast transition to a fossil fuel free society.”
Bradley talked about the importance of “building solidarity across the wider movements for social, economic and environmental justice is integral to our work towards a society where all of us live flourishing lives. To that end, I’m looking forward to meeting FoES’s members and supporters, deepening connections with our allies, and leading strategic campaigns to ensure decision makers deliver on their promises.”
Over the past 40 years, the campaign group has secured safer food and water, defended wildlife and natural habitats, defeated coal-fired power stations and the fracking industry, delivered a world-leading Climate Act for Scotland and mobilised hundreds of thousands of people in support of action on the climate.
