Exclusive designs and vintage clothing on show by environmental charity
The best of ‘green fashion’ will be on display in Edinburgh at an exclusive fashion show that will raise funds for charity.
Photo opportunity: Green Fashion Show with collections by Bill Baber Knitwear, Fabhatrix, Godiva, Catherine Aitken and Louise Pringle. The Voodoo Rooms, 19a West Register Street, Edinburgh at 7pm.
Vintage, ethical, upcycled and locally made clothing and accessories will be featuring in Friends of the Earth Scotland’s Green Fashion Show at the Voodoo Rooms on Wednesday 10 November at 7pm.
Davina Shiell, Head of Supporter Development and Communications, said: “Green is the new black – and we want to show that green fashion is stylish and exciting as well.
“Cheap disposable fashion is an incredible cost to the environment. The clothing and textiles industry produces more than three million tonnes of CO2 per year in the UK alone, as well as two million tonnes of waste and 70m tonnes of waste water.
“If you are buying new clothes you need to think about how it’s produced, where it’s made and what it’s made from. At this show we’ll show some vintage, locally and ethically produced alternatives to sweat-shop produced items sold in high street shops.”
Some UK clothing industry facts: The price of clothing in the UK has dropped up to 25% the last five years. We now buy two million tonnes of clothes a year, with 74% ending up in landfill. Cheap synthetic clothes are often non-recyclable.Non-organic cotton uses pesticides that damage both the environment and workers’ health.
Tickets cost £15 and can be bought online at www.foe-scotland.org.uk/fashionshow or by telephoning 0131 243 2700.
Friends of the Earth Scotland are organising the fashion show as part their “Your Planet Our Passion” fundraising month in November.
