Parliamentary Briefing on the Scottish Civil Justice Council Bill
Briefing for parliamentarians and policy makers on the Bill to introduce a new single Scottish Civil Justice Council. The Council will be responsible for implementing many of the reforms recommended in the 2009 Gill Review and keeping civil justice system under ongoing review as well as drafting rules. The new Council will have significant influence over access to justice and the way environmental law develops in Scotland. We support the creation of the new Council, but have a number of concerns about the Bill as it stands, particularly in relation to lack of transparency in the way appointments to the Council will be made.
