Friends of the Earth Scotland’s response to the UK Government’s consultation on the Contracts for Difference (CfD) Supply Chain Plans and Contracts, including a new process for Supply Chain Plans, monitoring and penalties.

This consultation is important because the Contracts for Difference scheme should involve assessing developers proposals on the basis of a wider range of social and environmental considerations, not just continuing with a “lowest-price” bid approach. Developers should be required through the CfD Supply Chain Plans to ensure substantial work in domestic supply chains and must face penalties for failing to adhere to their initial proposals.

The next CfD Allocation Round for renewables projects is an opportunity to address the failure to create the full potential of secure and sustainable jobs in the renewables economy that are necessary to deliver a just transition away from fossil fuels.
