Climate briefing for Scottish Parliament debate
A Friends of the Earth Scotland briefing for the Scottish Parliament debate “Meeting the Challenge of Climate Change” on 23rd june 2026.
Summary of the briefing
The climate crisis is threatening our way of life, and people and nature around the world. The Scottish Government has so far failed to deliver on its commitments to cut climate pollution, so a more ambitious approach is urgently needed.
- Affordable buses – improving public transport reduces emissions from cars
- Warm, well insulated homes – bring down people’s bills and climate pollution
- A just transition away from fossil fuels – support workers into good, green jobs
- Reject the Peterhead gas burning power station, Rosebank and Cambo
- Invest in publicly owned renewable energy
- Close the import loophole in our climate targets
