Response to Scottish Government consultation on Draft Climate Change Plan
The Climate Change Plan is the most important document published by the Scottish Government in terms of delivering on climate committments. Addressing climate change is one of the Scottish Government’s stated four priorities, but above all, achieving ‘net zero’ by 2045 is an existential matter, we risk increasing extreme weather at a scale that will result in millions of excess deaths if emissions are not brought down and global warming slowed.
The Climate Change Plan as produced by the Scottish Government is lacking in both detail and policy and does not represent a robust plan. The next Scottish Government must go further than the policies outlined in this CCP if they wish to tackle the climate emergency in a just and equitable way.
Given how late in the parliamentary term this document has been produced, it will fall on the next Scottish Parliament to implement the policies outlined. We call on all those who will be in power after the Scottish Parliament election to implement these policies and go further, to ensure that climate promises are met as quickly as possible in a just and equitable way.
