Summary

In February 2022, SSE and Equinor submitted a s Section 32 planning application to the Scottish Government Energy Consents Unit (ECU) to build a new gas burning power station with carbon, capture and storage (CCS)

Approving the power station would lock us into fossil fuels, allowing energy companies to drive up bills when nearly 1 in 3 households already live in fuel poverty

The existing power station is Scotland’s third biggest polluter and could remain online until 2040, where both plants could run simultaneously.

SSE’s own environmental impact assessment (EIA) admits that the project would have an ‘adverse and significant’ climate impact as its emissions would account for 42% of Scotland’s whole carbon budget in 2044
